Package graphics may be what draws the consumer’s attention, but the coding & marking ensures product quality and safety. Emerging technologies also, allow tracking and traceability of product. The outer package printing communicates with the consumer making a connection. The software behind coding & marking is becoming more sophisticated. System operation is easier, and simple interfaces allow for less error. The outer most package printing done with print and apply labels are at an advantage because many can now include radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags and have improved resolution for quick-response (QR) codes. Suppliers will continue to come up with upgrades and new offerings to improve marketing, distribution and traceability, through the printing technologies.
