The Food Labeling Modernization Act is a complete approach to updating labels so that consumers have all the information up front about the food they are buying for their families. The food Labeling Modernization Act (H.R. 3147) has been introduced to “modernize” food labeling. This would require updating Nutrition Facts Panels, Ingredient List Requirements, Front of Packaging and to do away with any misleading health claims. This bill would require the Department of Health and Human Services to issue complete guidelines clarifying the substances in all packaged products. Nutrition keys will have to be created, symbols design showing how healthy the product is based on nutritional facts, and manufacturers would be required to put the symbols on the front of their products.
